Halloween Time at Disneyland: What to Know Before You Go

Estimated read time 3 min read

Halloween is creeping up on us fast but if you can find the time between spooky craft projects and perfecting this year's themed family costumes, a visit to Disneyland is a relatively G-rated way to enjoy the haunting season.

Halloween Time at Disneyland kicked off on September 12 and will run through Halloween (Duh.) Mickey's Halloween Party is the main event of Halloween Time but despite it being held on several nights throughout October, there's only one night with tickets still available and that's on October 29.

If you can snag a $70 ticket before they're all gone, you'll be treated to a special fireworks show, more than 70 trick-or-treat stations, and the chance to run around Disneyland in your Tinkerbell costume. But if you can't make the nighttime party, don't worry. There's lots more to see and do during the daytime.

Like the following:

Pumpkin Photo Ops: There are pumpkins EVERYWHERE at Disneyland, starting with these pumpkin head creations at the entrance. Once you're inside the park, a giant Mickey pumpkin will greet you at the top of Main Street. There are more pumpkins with Disney characters carved onto them at the statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.

Hallowen Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch: A faux carnival tent has been set up just past Big Thunder Mountain and under it is everything from a petting zoo to a pirate make-over station, a pumpkin carver at work, Halloween crafts for little ones and the Conjure a Villain sideshow where Disney's infamous villains will magically appear. We went inside on a Friday afternoon and it was a nice shady spot to relax for a bit. Then Mickey and Minnie came in and played with the kids, even drawing with ours at the craft table. #awesome

Characters in Costumes: Characters are already technically in costume but we, er, the kids loved seeing their favorite characters dressed up in special Halloween gear.

Spooky Rides: Now's the time to really enjoy the spooky rides at Disneyland like the Haunted Mansion (populated by Jack Skellington and friends from “A Nightmare Before Christmas”), Pirates of The Caribbean and even Space Mountain, which is promising a haunted section of the ride called Ghost Galaxy. (But you can skip the abominable snowman on The Matterhorn. That ride is scary…in what it does to your back. #herkyjerkytime.)

A “Haunted” Tour: Disneyland offers a special “Happiest Haunts” tour that begins at sunset and promises “thrilling attractions and spine-tingling tales.” But according to these reviews, it's really just $80 to walk on four of the most popular rides at the park, followed by a Halloween treat. Nevertheless, it's a popular tour and sells out fast.

Eat: Hit up the candy shops for Halloween-themed treats like these. Even Starbucks on Main Street gets into the Halloween spirit.

MEANWHILE, OVER AT WALT DISNEY WORLD…

Walt Disney World is also getting in on the Halloween fun with Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Halloween and Mischief Night are all sold-out but there are plenty more dates open. Those tickets range from $62 to $71 a person.
