THE BRONX ZOO

Why we love it: The history buff in us marveled at the old architecture of the zoo, which first opened in 1899, while the kids loved the different animals that showed up around every corner. It's also easy for folks in New Jersey, Connecticut and New York to get to.

What Ages?: All ages!

What to See?: The Wild Asia Monorail, the Bug Carousel, the Butterfly Garden, and the Congo Gorilla Forest.

When to Go?: Summer is clearly the best time to take full advantage of the zoo. And like all major attractions during the summertime, go on a weekday. However, the zoo is open year-round.

How Much Does It Cost?: From now through November 2, Total Experience adult tickets cost $33.95 while children ages 3-12 are $23.95. This is recommended if you plan on doing the rides at the zoo, which include the activities above. You can get 10 percent discount off the tickets when you purchase them online. Otherwise, general admission tickets start at $16.95 for adults and $12.95 for children ages 3-12. There are also discounts for seniors 65 and older.
