Vacationing in the desert doesn't get much better than at the new Ritz-Carlton Ranch Mirage near Palm Springs, perched high above the Coachella Valley. And if you're bringing the kids along for a desert retreat, they will be well-entertained at the Ritz Kid Headquarters located just off the pool area (which is also an awesome place for kids to be entertained.)
Here kids ages 5-12 can play with toys, read from a rather large selection of library books, learn about the living desert, tend to a garden in the “backyard” and even take care of Draco, the resident bearded dragon reptile. Here's a close-up of the handsome fella.
But what really blew us away was the mini-movie theater inside the Ritz Kids Headquarters, which has two rows of movie theater seats and popcorn boxes.

A full day at Ritz Kids runs from 10am to 5pm and costs $150, including a lunch. A half-day program, which runs from either 10am to 1pm or 2pm to 5pm and includes a snack is $75.
Whatever schedule you choose, you'll have pletny of adult time to take advantage of the rest that the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage has to offer. We strongly recommend a morning or afternoon in the spa, which has outdoor showers in its treatment rooms, private plunge pools and a dedicated focus on helping you release negative energy, i.e. all that time you had to spend “making nice” with your in-laws over the holidays.
More places for adults to chill on-property include the adults-only pool which has jaw-dropping desert views, State Fare Bar for stiff drinks, California wines, and tasty small bites; and The Edge Steakhouse for a proper “night out.”
Room rates at the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage start at $329 a night in early January. There's a $30 daily resort fee and parking is $30 a night.
