Inside Conrad St. James in London

CONRAD ST. JAMES

Where: 22-28 Broadway, Westminster, London SW1H 0BH, UK

Stay Date: April 2015

The beds are incredibly comfortable (our friend cheekily left that One Direction pillow on there for us!), there are showers and separate bathtubs in all rooms, free WiFi, a comprehensive plug panel at the desk and complimentary Nespresso coffee. We especially liked the futuristic screen that housed the TV. It looked like a giant tablet but the TV screen inside was normal-sized.

In short, the hotel checks off every box when you are looking for a modern luxury hotel–it's central (The St. James' tube stop is across the street), it's comfortable (we laid in bed for an entire day, not kidding), and there are several restaurant and bar options on-site such as the Blue Boar Bar.

But what puts Conrad over the top here is their Executive Lounge.

The lounge is tres chic, with the decor done in subtle grays and blues and accented with elegant lighting fixtures. It's also very spacious with plenty of tables to dine at and lounge chairs to relax in. There are just two computers (PCs, not Macs) in a quiet corner, which is a primo spot to take a business meeting. And since this hotel is favored by politicians we bet they do quite a bit of meetings here.

But what really sold us on the lounge, were the showers (two of them with Molton Brown toiletries) for those with early arrivals or late departures. If you're flying a long way, these alone might be worth the lounge price.

The cost for Executive Lounge rooms is about 125-150 pounds more than a regular room but you get breakfast in the morning, evening cocktails with canapés, and snacks and drinks throughout the day. The Executive Lounge is also open to guests who book one of the hotel's 15 suites and to Diamond Tier HHonors members. Those one-bedroom suites are great for families too.

If you only need the lounge for just one day, you can pay 150 pounds extra for a one-time access. Rates in November at the Conrad start around 307 GBP a night for a regular room and 349 GBP for an executive club room.
