At Cheval Blanc in St. Barth’s, Children Can Swim With a ‘Mermaid’

Estimated read time 3 min read

Cheval Blanc on St. Barth's, a seriously expensive high-end resort owned by Louis Vuitton's parent company, LVMH, sounds like one of the most family-friendly places on earth. At least according to the descriptions on their website.

Here's a list of items “at your disposal” should you and your nanny be staying with children:

  • A Baudou baby cot ensures maximum security thanks to the protective barriers and surrounding cushions
  • A bed cover and embroidered white sheets of seahorses and stars in the taupe and pink colours of the Maison, exclusively designed by Baudou
  • A changing table with its own basket for diapers and everyday baby care products
  • A stroller with a Bugaboo Chameleon parasol whose wheels are ideal for walking comfortably on sandy beaches or the island paths.
  • A rattan highchair with an upholstered seat and plastic tray that is easy to clean
  • A hand-sewn bib specially designed by Baudou is embroidered with seahorses and stars, courtesy of the Maison
  • Bowls suitable for babies
  • A selection of toys for those sunny afternoons on Flamands beach

In the guestrooms, the luxury resort will also include bathrobes in whatever size your children wear. Older children also receive their own pair of flip lops and slippers. At night, a soft stuffed toy horse in the pink and taupe colors of the Maison (the fancy Nancy way of referring to the resort) will keep your children company while they sleep.

But the resort tops all others with the “experiences” for children, including swimming with a mermaid. Yes, this really happens.

“Amarylis, a beautiful sea creature joins your children for a swim: the myth of the ocean becomes a reality for our young guests who have the pleasure of playing in the waves with her.”

If you recently kept up with the Kardashians during their St. Barth's trip (not yet aired but photos were all over social media and gossip sites), you'll know that this is the experience that Kim and Kourtney held for little North and Penelope. See?

Of course, if E! and Ryan Seacrest are not footing your hotel bill, this experience will cost you a lot of money. Room rates in peak winter season are close to 1,000 Euros a night. However, if you're looking to go when the resort opens for the season again–October 15–rooms are “only” 620 Euros. Or you can buy yourself a mermaid tail and swim around in the pool at the local Y and hope the children like that.
