Say No More: The Pod Hotel in D.C. Has Bunk Beds

Estimated read time 2 min read

Heading to Washington D.C. this summer with the kids for a history lesson? There's a new hotel you may want to check into, especially if you're traveling with tweens and teens.

The Pod Hotel D.C. is a spin-off of the two existing Pod Hotels in New York City, where space is minimal but function and design are maximized. Or as Pod puts it—”Pod DC is all about surprising details, intelligent design and no fuss.”

The hotel, which is located in the Chinatown/Penn Quarter, has 245 guest rooms split between double, queen and wait for it…*bunk bed* configuations. Amenities in the rooms include built-in storage (to save on space), free WiFi, 50″ flat-screen TVs, and the option to stream your own media content from your phones and tablets. Since this is a micro-tel with little frills, these rooms are comfortable places to bed down at the end of a long, sticky, summer day exploring but they aren't necessarily spots where you want to hole up all day.

The lobby, while artful, is also small but the dining options go big. There's the Crimson Diner on the ground floor serving southern fare all day long while Crimson View, the hotel's rooftop bar and restaurant, has killer views of the capitol. There's also the Crimson Whiskey Bar in the basement, but we're guessing parents may have to hit that up in shifts.

Rates for the Pod Hotel start around just $185 a night in mid-June for a full Pod which can sleep two parents but you pay want to pay $5 more and upgrade to a Queen Pod which will give you more space. Twin pods, which contain the bunk beds, are even cheaper but booking them online was a little challenging. So call the hotel instead at (202) 847-4444 to ensure you get the bunk bed room for the kids.
