Put This on Your Nearcation List: Park Hyatt Aviara

Estimated read time 3 min read

Since the nearcation trend will keep on keeping on through 2020, here's another great spot to add to your weekend getaway list—The Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, just north of San Diego.

The sprawling resort recently underwent a massive renovation, redoing the guestrooms, restaurants and bars, pools, and other public spaces. They've also added a Topgolf Swing Suite, a sort of hangout lounge off the lobby featuring virtual games, a large screen for viewings, lively music and casual fare. Perfect for the golf obsessed. You can read all about the transformation here. The hotel will officially open to the public on October 19.

Yet beyond all the cushy resort amenities we love like pool, spa, room service and golf, the Park Hyatt is putting an emphasis on getting out of the resort during your stay, offering hikes and walks through and around the neighboring Batiquitos Lagoon. Given that much of the area's attractions nearby, like Legoland and other amusement parks, remained closed, it's nice to know the kids still have plenty of new places to explore. And how can we forget the beaches of Carlsbad? That's only about a 10-minute drive away. If you're looking for better surf, head down to Encinitas, just 15 minutes south.

Of course, because of Covid-19 the resort isn't fully open yet. The spa will open on October 19 with limited hours and many safety protocols. Food service is still limited as are the pools but golf and tennis are open. And masks are (thankfully) required anytime you are in the public spaces. Still, the property has plenty of space to spread out and relax and most importantly, enjoy fluffy new hotel beds.

Even better, Park Hyatt Aviara is part of the Hyatt Privé program which will gives Privé guests $100 property credit, a room upgrade if available, breakfast for two and a welcome amenity. And beyond that if you book three nights or more, your 3rd night is free. But only if you book through a Hyatt Privé travel advisor like me!

Rates start around $400 a night on October 19th.
