Looking for another getaway option near Los Angeles? Our fave family-friendly spot, The Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes, is set to reopen on June 19.
Located in Rancho Palos Verdes, which is about a 45-minute drive from Los Angeles, Terranea occupies 102 acres on a peninsula overlooking the ocean. From here, spotting whales, dolphins and sea lions is a daily occurence. [Speaking of those animals, the resort is on the same site of the old Marineland theme park, which was essentially a precusor to Sea World, complete with performing orca whales named Corky and Orky.]
Aside from about 360 luxury rooms and suites in their main building, Terranea also has a selection of bungalows, casitas and villas on property. And while there are usually lots of activities to do on the property from pool time to dining, golf, tennis and spa services, many of these have been adjusted in the wake of Covid-19, including the kids club and the spa.
Here's what Terranea is doing to reopen safely for guests:
- Terranea has implemented the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s Safe Stay industry-wide initiative, developed under the guidance of its Advisory Council, comprised of industry leaders representing all segments of the hotel industry, and in conjunction with public health experts to advance best practices for protecting against the coronavirus.
- Terranea is Clean + Safe Certified by the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA). Incorporating recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the California Department of Public Health, and county health departments, CHLA has established standards for guest and employee cleanliness, workplace cleaning and safety, and changing guest experiences.
- The resort has also partnered with Ecolab for more enhanced standards and protocols regarding hospitality, public health, food safety and hygiene services.
- The Resort Pool and Vista Pool are open with physical spacing and monitoring.
- The Links golf course is open for advanced tee times; rental clubs, the practice facility, and putting greens are not available at this time.
- Food & beverage will be offered at sea beans, Nelson’s and Lobby Bar for carryout/takeaway which can be enjoyed at select picnic and dining areas, poolside, and the comfort of your room; in-room dining for guestrooms or private patios and balconies.
- Live music will be featured at Nelson’s and Lobby Bar with physical distancing and limited dining on Friday and Saturday evenings.
- Select adventure activities are available with physical spacing and monitoring.
- marea and pointe discovery retail boutiques are open with limited guest access.
- Coastal trails and Beach Cove access is partially open and subject to government guidelines.
- All other facilities are temporarily closed until further notice.
- Terranea is also extending travel planning flexibility for guests with a 24-hour cancellation and rebooking policy for Guestrooms and Suites; 72-hour cancellation and rebooking policy for Bungalows, Casitas, and Villas.
