What’s In the Kids’ Activity Bag at The Bass Museum in Miami Beach?

Estimated read time 3 min read

During a recent visit to Miami Beach, we popped into The Bass Musuem on Collins Avenue and we were tickled to see that the reception desk had these free kids' activity kits to use during our visit. While we didn't actually have our kids with us this time, we did request a bag and go through its contents. Here's what we found!

Each clear tote bag comes with a laminated guide to the artworks on display. The cards helpfully tell you what the piece is and who's the artist and where it's located. The cards also give kids an activity to do while looking at the piece, or an activity that's inspired by the piece. For instance, the “Welcome Wall” piece by Pascale Marthine Tayou, has kids use the chalk board and chalk that's in the bag to write out the word “Welcome” in different languages.

For the numerous Campo Abierto pieces from artist Sheila Hicks, kids are encouraged to have a seat on the benches and weave shoe laces in and out of different colored shapes included in the bag. How sweet!

The Bass is a very small museum and you can easily do it within an hour, even with kids in tow. Admission is reasonable at $10 for an adults, $5 for ages 13-18 and FREE for kids 12 and under.
