These Hotels are Making it Possible to Vacation While ‘Staying in School’

With many families heading back to school remotely this year, hotels have been quick to drum up packages centered around this new “learn from anywhere” mentality. So if you're bored of your kids being in the house, these hotels will break up those back-to-school in your bedroom or living room doldrums.

5 Hotels Where You Can Keep Up with School, Work, and Play

MONTAGE HOTELS & RESORTS 

Beginning on September 8, families who stay at Montage Deer ValleyMontage Laguna BeachMontage Los Cabos, or Montage Palmetto Bluff can enroll in the Montage Academy on an à la carte basis. The program includes: 

  • Access to an all-day monitored study hall during the school week, with start and finish times tailored to the individual participant’s home school remote learning structure and time zone
  • High-speed internet and all-day access to Montage’s IT support team
  • 24/7 access to instant virtual tutoring on 180+ subjects through Tutor.com, a service of The Princeton Review.
  • Daily healthy snacks and lunch will be provided
  • Movement Breaks, sponsored by Spa Montage, to encourage stretching and mobility throughout the day
  • One elective per day, including PE, Art, History, or Life Sciences
  • A Montage Academy swag tote bag complete with headphones, hand sanitizer, notebook and gift from Tutor.com, a service of The Princeton Review

A five-day advance notice is required and the Academy has academy-like prices starting at $125 for a full day and $725 for a full school week. (Prices may vary depending on the property.) But having someone else make your kids exercise and bring them snacks? Possibly priceless.

KIMPTON THE ROWAN PALM SPRINGS 

This downtown Palm Springs hotel will let kids set up in a private meeting room for distance learning from 8am to 3pm each day. They will also receive daily lunchboxes from the hotel's executive chef and a branded Rowan notepad. And when school's done, they can pop up to the glorious rooftop pool for “PE.”

The Remote Learning package is available for stays Sunday-Thursday and is subject to availability. The offer is good through book November 30, 2020 and limited to one (1) booking per week or set of dates to limit cross-contamination and exposures.

HYATT REGENCY CHESAPEAKE BAY

Just outside of D.C., the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay has set up their own Learning Room, which provides a classroom environment where families staying at the property can complete school work. The learning room provides wireless internet, plug in ready tables, and is located next to the Bay Country Market to provide easy access to food and beverage options throughout the day. Guests will also have access to a list of tutors in the Cambridge, Maryland area who specialize in a variety of school subjects and are available for hire on anhourly basis.

The resort is also leading up “educational excursions” including a tour of the on-site oyster farm and 18-acre wildlife refuge as well as off-site field trips to Downtown Cambridge and around Dorchester County, including a stop along Harriet Tubman's Underground Railroad Byway. The county also an app with self-guided tours too.

The Learn & Play by the Bay package is available for all guests based on availability. Access to the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Learning Room will be limited each
day in order to ensure social distancing practices.

PALACE RESORTS 

If you want to truly getaway but you can't pull the kids from their virtual school, consider the Make Paradise Your Classroom offer from the all-inclusive Palace Resorts in Mexico. An extension of the resorts' Kid & Teens Stay Free promotion, children 17 or under will not only stay, play and eat free but they will also have access mini-classrooms on property.

The resorts have been transforming their business centers into places where kids can sign on and which are fully stocked with computers and printers. More of the meeting spaces will also be converted into remote learning centers, with additional desks & computers.

GAYLORD HOTELS 

Gaylord Hotels in Colorado, Tennessee, Florida and Texas have created a “Learn from Here” program with on-site education experiences such as  Wildlife Rescue, done with augmented reality to provide a gamified, interactive experience that allows kids to become members of the Global Preservation Institute; Horticulture Tours that teach kids about the different plants in the resorts’ gardens, and an Adventure Kids Program, which is an in-room interactive video experience.

Gaylord Hotels, which are actually a part of Marriott Hotels, are bigger resort-like properties with atriums, water parks and more fun things to do right on the property. Most of the hotels have fully reopened too but it's still a good idea to double-check before booking.
