San Francisco usually brings up images of the tech scene but the W San Francisco in SoMa is throwing it back to a different time in the city's history—the gold rush era yet with a modern twist.
The hotel, which has 401 guest rooms including 12 suites, was first built in 1999. Back then, San Francisco was a completely different city that was still very much a bohemian haven not yet taken over by tech companies. W Hotels was a different brand then too, focusing on dark and sexy interiors and a very adult vibe. Fast foward to 20 years and now everyone has smartphones on which we can browse the internet, share photos, and even book a room at the W, which has swapped its mysterious and sultry identity for bright and fun. So yes, you can definitely bring the kids here.

The rooms are meant to pay “innovative homage” to the 1849 Gold Rush that helped put San Francisco on the map. Hence, the ultra-modern rooms feature elements of gold throughout such as beveled patterns and gold threads running the room carpets. (These actually trace the routes of the city's iconic cable car lines.) Gold “dust” is also sprinkled into the wall paper which have a gradient interpretation of the Bay Area's most famous resident, Karl The Fog. In the bathrooms, you'll find gold triangles throughout the tiling.
Of course, this being San Francisco and the 21st century, the rooms are decked out with modern tech, including WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and plenty of conveniently located outlets.

Families will be happy to know the W has a selection of double bedded-rooms, ranging from Wonderful to Fabulous and Spectacular, but a Fantastic Suite can accommodate 4 guests. (The rollaways are an extra $40 a night.)
Just outside the hotel are the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Yerba Buena Gardens, the Children's Creativity Museum (which we love!), and a Target, an essential stop for traveling families.

Rates at the W start around $200 a night on the weekends. Valet parking, as with all hotels in San Francisco, is expensive at $65 a night so be mindful of that if you are driving.
If you book the W San Francisco through Trips + Giggles, you'll get some extra goodies including daily breakfast for two, a welcome amenity and a $100 USD food and beverage credit. Email me with your dates and I'll check the rates right away.
