Whether You Want to Be Active or Inactive, Baker’s Cay Has Your Options Covered

We don't know about you but as soon as there's even a hit of chill in the air, our thoughts turn to warm-weather getaways. While entry to the Caribbean is spotty right now for U.S. travelers (most require negative Covid-19 tests and some still enforce quarantine), there's actually a warmer paradise right here in the U.S. in Key Largo, Florida at the Baker's Cay Resort*.

If you're keen to get away later this year, you won't have to go too far. The resort is located at the top of the Florida Keys, about 90-minutes from Miami International Airport. And currently, Florida has no quarantine rules or travel restrictions in place

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: We visited Baker's Cay in January, before Covid-19 forced a shutdown. The resort, however, has been open for several months and is now fully operational. To its advantage, much of the property's activities and dining are outdoors or in open air. There are only three stories of the sprawled-out resort with multiple stairwells so you can avoid the elevator if you want. Masks are required in the indoor public spaces and some dining services are limited.

There are loads of activities for kids and adults alike, including recreational games and walking trails, but what's great about Baker's Cay is that you can just do nothing and chill. In fact, we found lots of secluded little spots all along the water that are perfect little hideouts.

BOTTOM LINE: Rates through October are about $650 a night, plus a $38 daily resort fee that includes self-parking, bicycles, beach chairs, umbrellas & hammocks; paddle boards & kayaks; fishing rods with bait; recreational activities & equipment and more. Baker's Cay is actually a Curio Collection property from Hilton Hotels which means you can earn or use Honors points here.

*DISCLOSURE: We visited Baker's Cay while on assignment for an eco-travel story, but we wouldn't endorse anything that we didn't think was up to snuff for families. Indeed, Sara Liss, one of our fellow travel writer moms says Baker's Cay Resort is her favorite spot in the Keys for families.
