Home School Lunch Made Easy (and Delicious) by FIG Santa Monica

Estimated read time 2 min read

We're in the thick of remote learning and while it's definitely not as bad as it was last spring, it's definitely not ideal. There are plenty of problems with getting Zoom links to work, making kids to return to their computers or iPads after snack and lunch breaks, and understanding what they are learning, if they are learning anything at all. Add in the free-for-all pantry raids at snack time and the picky demands for lunches, we're practically nostalgic for the early days of lockdown when schedules were much looser (ok, not really.)

But help has arrived.

FIG Santa Monica, the neighborhood bistro within The Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, is offering Home School Lunches for families in the Los Angeles area. Even better than making it easy for families to have a tasty mid-day meal, for every lunch that is purchased, FIG is donating a lunch to the Santa Monica Boys and Girls Club. Whenever there's a chance to give back to those in need, we're in!

Each day of the week has a different menu, usually with three options. You can peep the full menu here. For a recent Wednesday, we ordered the Mac n' Cheese and the Pasta Shells with Meat Sauce. Each came with a side order of grapes and garlic bread as well as two Crayangle crayons and a sheet to play some Tiktaktoe. Each meal is $15. Pick-up is offered or if you live in the Santa Monica area you can have it delivered.

Aside from saving us the chore of having to make a lunch that day, it also was a super perk for the kids. They were so excited to have a meal not made by mom! And they raved about it, something that never happens when mom makes it. Needless to say, we've ordered up Home School Lunches from FIG for next week and the following week.

*Disclosure: We tried the Home School Lunch at the behest of FIG Santa Monica but as we've mentioned, we ordered up four more meals because the kids (and me) loved it so much!
