We May Have Gone Overboard with Making Popsicles (But We Have Zero Regrets)

Summertime looks a bit different this year but the kids' craze for popsicles is stronger than ever! We've been experimenting with store-bought pops from Dream Pops and Good Pops but now we've moved onto making our own popsicles.

But first, we needed fun popsicle molds. Because it almost doesn't matter what you put inside a crazy-shaped popsicle mold, even if it's stick of kale. (Shhhh.)

Perusing Amazon, we went a little wild buying silicon popsicle and traditional molds but we reasoned that we'll always have an easy fun treat at hand (give or take four to six hours.) For what it's worth, the silicon molds have better shapes (Tiki! Dinos!) but the traditional ones are easier to slip the popsicle out. Just run it under some warm water.

As for recipes, there are tons of sites out there with really inventive popsicle recipes. But I will say that we are partial to smoothie popsicles where we blend up different fruits with a little bit of juice or almond milk in our Vitamix. My 9-year-old says that the flavor of the smoothie popsicles last longer than just straight juice popsicles.

Another tip? Let the kids be in charge of what goes into the smoothie. Any combination works! Just be sure to separate the kid popsicle creations from the adult ones (wink, wink.) We did this by marking a T for tequila on one of the tiki pops. Since our kids are unable to get the popsicles out by themselves, we knew they wouldn't accidentally take ours.
