Are we sick of Stars Wars yet? Apparently with the release of Le Creuset Star Wars cookware collection, we aren't. But even if Hans, Leia, Luke and all the droids have gone the way of Hello Kitty and Friends, there's one big merch event we can get behind—the United Airlines Star Wars Plane.
The Boeing 737-800 plane was unveiled the other week and now it's currently making its way around North America (it landed at LAX the other day!), Central America and the Caribbean. You can track the tail number N36272 on Flight Aware but if you look up in the sky (with binoculars) you might just catch a glimpse of the special Rise of Skywalker livery.
This special paint job features a blanket of stars and the revamped X-wing and TIE fighter spacecraft. It also features a “light” side and a “dark” side. Doug Chiang, the vice president and executive creative director for Lucasfilm, was hands-on with the design too. From United's press release about the plane:
Working with this medium for the first time, Chiang looked for interesting ways to make the deign pop. “We leveraged the curve of the fuselage to give the impression of three dimensionality,” he says. By placing the main X-wing and TIE fighter on the broadest area of the aircraft, it gave the impression that the spaceships were spatially coming out toward the viewer. Two smaller spaceships were placed on the upper and lower edges of the fuselage to reinforce this perspective. The resulting illusion is one of false dimesnsion, like a classic trompe l'oeil painting where the imagery seems to jump out of the canvas.
But this intergalatic plane doesn't just sport the Star Wars logo and galatic battles on its livery. Everything on the inside of the plane is Star Wars-themed as well, even the safety video.

The aisles are divided into The First Order and The Resistance sides and guests will get Star Wars-themed amenity kits. Plus, United's MileagePlus members can earn miles to bid on special Star Wars-themed items, including tickets to the Rise of Skywalker movie, which comes out next month. One plane is obviously not enough. There's another Star Wars-themed plane making its away around the world as well. LATAM Airlines Group has a Stormtrooper Plane, a Boeing 777, is making trips from São Paulo to Orlando, along with Miami and European cities including Madrid, Frankfurt and Paris.

This time the livery was designed by Disney's creative team in partnership with Lucasfilm to herald the opening of Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World. While the Star Wars homage is mostly on the outside of the plane, LATAM passengers can actually watch ALL 10 FILMS of the Star Wars Collection onboard. Kinda feeling like booking a long-haul flight just for this perk!
